LOS ANGELES—Today District Attorney George Gascón kicked off his 2024
reelection campaign surrounded by a broad coalition of Democrats, organized
labor, community leaders and fellow elected officials. With less than five months
before the Primary Election, Gascón is well-positioned to hold an organizing and
voter turnout advantage among the communities and consistencies essential to
any electoral victory in Los Angeles County today. Additional supporters will be
announced in the coming weeks.
“This campaign is not about me, this is a community movement,” said District
Attorney Gascón. “This is about looking at the criminal justice system of 21st
Century not with a rearview mirror but looking forward. Reform is the collective
work of people both in our community and in the legal system—attorneys as well
those who are being impacted, victims and accused. We’re fully committed to
fighting for our shared values: investing in community health and safety while
ending the death penalty, no longer prosecuting children as adults, holding law
enforcement and big corporations accountable.”
Speakers at the event, which was held at SEIU 2015’s Los Angeles headquarters,
included US Representative Tony Cárdenas, California Assemblymember Tina
McKinnor, Los Angeles City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, SEIU 2015
President Arnulfo De La Cruz, SEIU United Service Workers West President David
Huerta, and A Way of Life Reentry Project Co-Founder Susan Burton.
