DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOSEPH INIGUEZ WITHDRAWS FROM RACE FOR LOS ANGELES DISTRICT ATTORNEY TO ENDORSE GEORGE GASCÓN
LOS ANGELES – Today, George Gascón joined Joseph Iniguez on the steps of the Hall of Justice as Deputy DA Iniguez announced he was withdrawing from the race for Los Angeles District Attorney to support George Gascón’s candidacy and help him defeat incumbent Jackie Lacey.
“This moment, and this movement, is bigger than any one individual,” said Deputy District Attorney Joseph Iniguez. “There is simply too much riding on this race and for that reason I am stepping aside. The nation is watching this race, and prosecutors across the country have been watching and following George’s lead on criminal justice reform. George has proven he has the vision to lead the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office into the 21st Century, and has more management experience than the other candidates in this race combined. I am excited to work alongside him to restore competency and dignity to the DA’s office.”
“I am humbled to have Joseph’s support,” said former District Attorney and Assistant Chief of the LAPD, George Gascón. “This is not my movement–it’s all of ours–and together can we enhance safety and return the moral authority to our system of justice.”
Deputy DA Iniguez’s support for Gascón goes further than withdrawing and providing his endorsement. He will be serving as a co-chair of his campaign, appearing on his behalf at community events, helping spread the word about Gascón’s modern approach to community safety, as well as working with the campaign on innovative policy proposals. We welcome him to #TeamGascón!
